Disability Days at Kentucky Speedway with the Sam Schmidt Paralysis Foundation

It’s that time again and YOU AND YOUR GROUP ARE INVITED!!   The Sam Schmidt Paralysis Foundation ( (http://www NULL.samschmidt holds a day at the track event at speedways around the country.  And once again, The Kentucky Speedway has graciously agreed to help sponsor our Day at the Races event this year!

Please see the attached flyer for more info on the Annual Sam Schmidt Paralysis Foundation’s Day at the Races Kentucky Speedway event scheduled on Friday, August 8th. The whole day is amazingly fun-filled! AND IT’S ALL FREE!

Basically SSPF invites patients in VA Hospitals, rehabilitation hospitals and Shriners Hospitals along with organizations whose members are paralyzed to enjoy a very special day at the speedway.  We provide everyone with resource materials and gifts, infield parking is provided as well as special passes enabling the participants to tour the garage and pit areas and meet with IRL drivers, an opportunity available to few individuals.  Additionally, free lunch is provided in the hospitality tent of Andretti Green Racing and the event’s title sponsor, United Medical Providers, Inc., hands out free t-shirts, hats, bags, and other fun IndyCar series goodies.

The 7th Annual Disability Day at Kentucky Speedway sponsored by Friends For Michael and Sam Schmidt  Paralysis Foundation.  This event is for SCI Survivors and  family to go behind the scenes of Indy Racing. Contact Cindy Norton if you are interested in attending this event!

Friends For Michael travels to Indy for the annual  Sam Schmidt Paralysis Foundation Indy 500 Racing to Recovery  Dinner.

Proceeds benefit the Sam Schmidt Paralysis Foundation. Meet current Indy Car drivers. Cocktails & lavish strolling dinner buffet; silent & life auctions including one-of-a-kind racing memorabilia. The 2008 Legendary Driver and Partner for a Cure Awards will be presented.

Mario Andretti will receive the 2008 Legendary Driver Award. His racing legend includes a passion and joy that have been unmatched by any other driver. In a career that lasted 5 decades, he took the checkered flag 111 times and was named Driver of the Year in 3 different decades – the ‘60’s, ‘70’s and ‘80’s.

The 2008 Partner for a Cure Award will be presented to the Hulman-George family for their tireless efforts, resources and encouragement provided to the foundation since its inception in 2000. Shortly after Sam’s accident, Mari Hulman-George established endowment professorships at both Purdue University and Indiana University for their paralysis research efforts. Both programs resulted in clinical trials that strive to improve the quality of life for patients with paralysis. The Mari Hulman-George Lecture Series in Neurobiology unites world-renowned researchers to further research throughout the world. The Hulman-George family, along with the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and the Indycar Series, has supported SSPF by helping fund research, grants and the “Day at the Races” program. SSPF is truly grateful to them for their belief in the Foundation’s mission.
